The Wizard Of Oz Review

Amber and I have been lucky enough to watch some fantastic live productions this year. During the summer holidays we were invited to watch Regal Entertainments’ The Wizard of Oz at Stockport Plaza. The Wizard of Oz is one of my favourite musicals and I knew that Amber would absolutely love it. We watched the original together first so that Amber would know what to expect.

The cast were a great mix including, Eastenders star Cheryl Fergison (you’ll know her as Heather) as the wicked witch of the west, X Factor’s David Heath as the scarecrow and Maddie Hope Coelho as Dorothy.

We were seated close to the stage, and the brilliant intro including cast performances of Cockeyed Joe, 5,6,7,8 and Hillbilly Rock was just the start of what was a very energetic production. The modern twist of the musical was fabulous and throughout the show the cast would perform well-known songs, our favourites being Cheryl’s twist of ‘Black Magic’ by Little Mix. Talking of Cheryl, she was incredible throughout and convincing as the witch. I also loved her Eastenders references which had us all in fits of laughter.

Maddie was also great in her role as Dorothy. As for the show the audience participation was lively and catered as much to adults as the young ones.

If you missed the run of performances at Stockport Plaza, don’t worry. The Wizard of Oz is back on the yellow brick road and heading towards Southport, Liverpool and Rhyl in October. Don’t miss out on what is an hilarious twist on a classic!
