Raw cacao is currently one of the post popular health foods around and rightly so with it’s many benefits.
Magnesium: Raw cacao is the richest source of magnesium. Mangnesium has many benefits including being a muscle relaxant and an anti-stress mineral.
Chromium: Raw cacao is also the richest source of Chromium. Chromium not only faciliates the breakdown of insulin, it’s also beneficial for PMS as it controls sugar cravings which are heightened during menstruation. Many ‘weight management’ supplements and lean whey powders will add chromium in for this very reason. A diet rich in chromium can help prevent Type 2 Diabetes.
Antioxidants: Raw cacao is full of antioxidants which help protect cells from oxidative stress and free radicals.
My favourite raw cacao products are these raw bites from Bioglan which also contain quinoa. They are delicious and guilt-free. They are also vegan.
I’m also a fan of using raw cacao powder to make a healthy hot chocolate and substituting chocolate chips for cacao nibs in baking.
